Best Practices: Dividing the Work on a Film and/or TV Show

Montréal, August 31, 2017– On September 6 at 11:30 a.m. at the Palais des congrès, the Quebec Film and Television Council (QFTC) is pleased to present an “In-Depth Discussion about the Visual Effects Industry,” a panel that will bring together four internationally renowned American VFX directors with very impressive resumés:  
 
  • Gretchen Libby, (The Revenant, Avatar, Ironman) Executive in Charge, Global Studio, ILM
  • Nancy St. John(Babe, Gladiator), VFX producer & consultant
  • Randy Starr(San Andreas, Warcraft movie, Into the storm) V-P, senior, VFX et 3D, Legendary Pictures 
  • William W. Wilson III(The three Musketeers, Arabian Nights, The Killer, Day of the Beast), V-P senior, Production
The panel is presented as part of effectsMTL and will be moderated by Benoit Touchette, Head of Visual Effects at MELS.

Panelists will share their advice on how to optimize the quality of a production by developing a collaborative spirit between different teams. What are the best practices to adopt and the obstacles to overcome when making visual effects for an American blockbuster?
“The QFTC has been an effectsMTL partner since the beginning, and this year, we are renewing our commitment by presenting, in collaboration with MELS,our Prestige Partner, a very high-caliber panel on improving industry practices,” said Pierre Moreau, Chief Executive Officer of the QFTC.
 “We’re very pleased to participate in this panel,” said Michel Trudel, President of MELS.
“The field of visual effects is a very important driver of growth in our industry in Montréal. We have to keep organizing these kinds of meetings between key players in our industry to encourage dialogue, generate innovative ideas and create lasting business relationships.”

One-on-one meetings with panelists
Speed-dating style one-on-one meetings between the four panelists and QFTC-member visual effects companies will be held on September 6 in the afternoon at the Palais des congrès.
A VFX Fam Tour with American panelists including studio visits and business meetings is also planned for September 5 to 8.
