INCENTIVE BONUS FOR FILMING OUTSIDE OF GREATER MONTRÉAL

In fall 2019, after consultation with film industry organizations and associations, the QFTC initiated a new proposal to improve the tax credit for filming outside the Greater Montreal area. This project, which aims to make the tax system more competitive, was submitted to the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Culture and Communications and the Minister of the Economy and Innovation in early December as part of pre-budget consultations.

 

TAX CREDIT INFORMATION MEETING

On December 17, some 40 members of the QFTC attended an information meeting on the refundable tax credit for film and television production services. The meeting was conducted by Sophie Labesse, SODEC's Director General of Corporate Financial Services and Fiscal Measures. The QFTC warmly thanks Ms. Labesse and our hosting partner, the Places d'Armes Hotel.

 

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ENHANCEMENT

The QFTC is pursuing its desire to develop an additional economic lever to promote a transition towards a property owner economy by adapting the fiscal tools currently available for the production of animation and video games. A study and recommendations package has been submitted to the Office of the Premier of Quebec, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, the Ministry of Culture and Communications and SODEC.

 

QFTC AT FOCUS AND CONTENT LONDON

In early December, Chanelle Routhier, QFTC's National Film and Television Commissioner, was in London for Content London and Focus, two major events for the audiovisual industry. She met with several foreign producers, learned about the latest global trends in content creation and represented the province of Quebec at the VIP event at Content London sponsored by Invest in Canada, where she was at the head table.

The QFTC is pleased to count two new studios among the companies represented on the VFX-Montreal website!

A true reference in Quebec's visual effects and animation industry, the site's mission is to promote this fast-growing sector and to allow studios to post their job offers for free.

The site's statistics in 2019:

ALEXANDRE LATURAZE APPOINTED TREASURER OF THE QFTC

The Quebec Film and Television Council (QFTC) has appointed Alexandre Laturaze, CPA, CA, LL.M. Taxation, MBA, Canadian Tax Partner at Demers Beaulne, as Treasurer of its Board of Directors following the retirement of Maurice Prud'homme.

The Council also wishes to acknowledge the work of Maurice Prud'homme, outgoing Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the QFTC and former Executive Director of the Fonds d'investissement de la culture et des communications (FICC), and to thank him for his investment in this role. The Council would like to underline its involvement in the creation of the QFTC, particularly through the working groups conducted during the Forum métropolitain de l'industrie cinématographique (FMIC) in 2004.

 

JANUARY LOCATION SCOUTS

A location scout in the Montreal area took place during the week of January 6 to 10 for a potential American feature film. Another location scout took place between December 18 and January 15 for animated television series projects.
