QFTC Trade Mission to Los Angeles Strives to Raise Ambitions for Quebec


Montreal, March 15, 2017 – Back from its three-day trade mission in Los Angeles, the QFTC is confident it has taken a major step in boosting Quebec’s creative economy. Organized in collaboration with the Mayor of Montreal’s Cabinet, the mission was lead by Manon Gauthier, Responsible for Culture, Heritage, Design, Space for Life and the Status of Women on the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal and made up of a delegation from Quebec that included the QFTC and 13 Quebec companies.

From March 6-9, mission delegates met with several key decision-makers from the production and finance sectors in Hollywood. The mission had clear objectives: Present Quebec’s overall offer in terms of audiovisual production services, highlight the visual effects, special effects, and virtual and augmented reality sectors and promote Quebec’s competitive tax incentives. The mission also made it possible to show off the impressive and diverse architecture available in the province and position Quebec as one of the most attractive destinations for producers and artistic directors, not to mention its guarantee of excellence with regards to financial services.
“The Quebec audiovisual sector is experiencing strong economic growth and the QFTC intends to support this growth by setting up structural development strategies that will provide results and stimulate enthusiasm in the Quebec audiovisual community. This very important mission made us stronger, and we came back with the potential for additional short-term investments valued at $70 million,” noted Pierre Moreau, CEO of the QFTC.

“I would like to congratulate the QFTC Production Services team, which once again showed great professionalism and diligence in organizing this mission,” added Pierre Moreau.

2017 Shows Signs of Being a Promising Year for Quebec

In 2016, 26 foreign productions spent $298.3 million in direct expenses in Quebec. With several confirmed productions, including X-Men (20th Century Fox), TV series Jack Ryan (Amazon Studio and Paramount Television) and The Bold Type (Universal Television), direct expenses made in Quebec in 2017 have already reached an impressive $227 million. In a stable economic environment, the Quebec Film and Television Council would like to see a growth rate of about 30% per year, to reach $700 million annually by 2022.
