Another Successful VFX FAM Tour for the QFTC!

Montreal, September 18, 2017 - The Quebec Film and Television Council is very pleased with its tour organized for visual effects professionals, which took place on September 6 and 7 as part of its partnership with the third edition of effects MTL.

For the 3rd consecutive year, the QFTC’s production and promotion team organized a FAM tour for five VFX producers and supervisors from the US companies as Amazon Studios, Legendary Pictures and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). The tour was divided into three parts and provided guests with an overview of the extensive talent available in Quebec for visual effects and animation.

An Impressive Panel and One-on-One Meetings with the Quebec Industry
On September 6, effects MTL participants were invited to a panel discussion titled In-depth Discussion About the Visual Effects Industry moderated by Benoit Touchette, Head of Visual Effects at MELS. The discussion focused mainly on how to optimize production quality, how to promote a collaborative spirit between different teams, and best practices to adopt and how to work around obstacles for producing visual effects for an American blockbuster.

I want to thank you for introducing us to so many wonderful, talented people. Hopefully, we can be on our way back to you to start preparations.” William W. Wilson III,  V-P sénior, Production

In the afternoon, close to ten representatives of Quebec companies had the opportunity to present their services and expertise to producers during individual meetings organized especially for QFTC members.

The one-on-one meetings were invaluable. They gave us privileged access to key players in our industry. It really is Hollywood coming to meet with you, right here in Quebec!” - Denis Doré, CEO, President and Co-founder, Squeeze Studio Animation

Visit of Quebec Visual Effects Studios
The US delegation concluded its visit with studio tours and meetings with finance and post-production professionals. They were able to see the wide variety of projects and services that Quebec companies can deliver.

“Once again, the QFTC demonstrated its ability to attract high-level decision-makers to contribute to the development of Quebec’s audiovisual sector and continued to fulfil its mandate of economic development. Congratulations to our team for an exceptional and efficiently organized tour that was 100% VFX!,” noted Pierre Moreau, CEO of the QFTC.

The tour is an integral part of the QFTC’s actions as part of its strategy to support the growth of the visual effects sector. Since 2009, this sector has maintained an impressive annual growth rate of 27%, reaching an estimated annual contract volume of $278 million in 2016.

The QFTC would like to thank the organizers of effects MTL, the delegation of US panellists and its Prestige partners MELS and Hôtel William Gray for their valuable collaboration in making this promotional event for the Quebec industry a success.
