WAR WITCH at the Oscars

The Quebec Film and Television Council congratulates its members Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin of Item 7, as well as the entire cast and crew of War Witch for their Oscar nomination. Directed by Kim Nguyen, War Witch is among the five nominees for best foreign language film at the Academy Awards.
 
This nomination constitutes a historic record in itself. For the first time ever, a country – Canada – is nominated for three consecutive years in the Foreign Language film category.
 
War Witchis the story of Komona, a 14 year old girl, who tells her unborn child how she became a rebel. A life lesson, War Witch is a human resilience and love story between two young souls caught in a violent world filled with beauty and magic.
 
Earlier this year, War Witch was widely praised on the international circuit. The feature film won best actress and best narrative film awards at the Tribeca Film Festival as well as a Silver Bear for best actress and an ecumenical prize at the Berlin Film Festival.
 
The Oscar ceremony will be held on February 24 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
